Decide your degree
- PhD: three to four years full-time or five to seven years part-time.
- MPhil: two to three years full-time or four to six years part-time.
- Masters by Research: one year full-time or two years part-time.
Entry requirements
At the point of application, you will be expected to demonstrate that you have achieved the necessary language proficiency, academic qualifications, you have prior experience in research, have a viable research proposal in an area we can supervise. To commence Postgraduate Research study at Leeds Trinity, you will need a subject expert supervisor in your chosen topic area. We have over 100 qualified supervisors at Leeds Trinity.

Fees and funding
Details of the annual tuition fee for studying a self-funded PhD or Masters by Research for UK/EU students can be found on our Postgraduate Finance UK Students page, and for International students on our International Fees and Funding page.
We frequently advertise fully and part-funded PhD studentships and also support our graduates and alumni into postgraduate research.
Your application
When applications open in February, you'll need to submit the following:
- A completed application form
- A Research proposal (2000 words maximum)
- The names of your nominated supervisor and confirmation that you have discussed your proposal and application with them
- Supporting evidence that you meet the entry criteria, such as certificates related to your qualifications
- The names and contact details of two academic referees
Our decision
We will contact you with a decision to interview within two to four weeks of receiving an application. Our decision to offer a place is based on the quality of your research proposal, the academic fit to our research strengths (supervision) and your performance at interview. We will inform you of an outcome within two weeks of the interview.
Confirming your place
All of our research degrees are accredited by the University of Leeds, and our provisional offer is subject to approval from the University of Leeds.
