In the annual survey covering institutions in the UK and Australia conducted by Advance HE, Leeds Trinity received its highest ever ratings for research skills, professional development, responsibilities, support, and progress and assessment – placing in the top 25% of all participating institutions for each of those themes – as well as an overall satisfaction score of 88%, beating the sector average of 83%.

The University also ranked among the top-performing institutions for postgraduate research students’ confidence in completing their research degree on time, and recorded improvements in 10 out of 11 areas within ‘development opportunities’, which measures the availability of avenues to showcase research or gain specific skills such as teaching or presenting.

Professor Martin Barwood, Director of Postgraduate Research Studies at Leeds Trinity University, said: “These are exceptional results for Leeds Trinity University and a clear reflection of the vibrant, nurturing environment we provide for our postgraduate researchers. We placed in the first or second quartile in more areas of the survey than ever before, and we are proud to see such significant improvements across the board, particularly in areas that are fundamental to academic and professional development.

“These achievements bring us closer to our strategic goals, including research degree awarding powers, and reinforce our commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers who will make a real impact in their fields.”

The results show the University is delivering an excellent student experience at both postgraduate and undergraduate level. Last year, Leeds Trinity was ranked as one of the best in the UK for the academic and wellbeing support it gives its students in the National Student Survey.

Christine Broughan, Interim Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Experience at Leeds Trinity University, said: “These outcomes align with our whole-institution mission to deliver educational excellence and an outstanding student experience at every level of study. We are focused on creating an environment in which students and researchers can thrive, develop confidence in their abilities, and prepare to make meaningful contributions to their professions and wider society.”

Leeds Trinity aims to provide opportunities for aspiring researchers to gain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Masters by Research degree (MbR) across a wide range of subject areas including Business and Management Studies, Education, Law, Sport, and Exercise Sciences and more.

The University is a welcoming environment for early career and postgraduate researchers, offering them tailored guidance, peer support and professional development to advance their careers. This includes workshops on funding, impact and engagement, guidance on disseminating their research and developing their external profiles, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration through research centres and clusters.
